UPGRADE EXISTING SPORTS FIELDS <br />The bond measure included funding to upgrade 15 <br />athletic fields on Bethel and 4J school properties. Due <br />cost-effective designs, careful project scheduling, <br />lower-than-anticipated bids, and volunteer efforts, 19 <br />fields have been upgraded. Fields at Roosevelt, <br />Spencer Butte, Monroe, Danebo, Malabon, <br />Washington, Willard, Willakenzie, Gilliam, and <br />Monroe schools have been upgraded. <br />liLVLLUY 1VL1(GHI3URHUUll PARKS <br />The bond measure funded the development and/or <br />renovation of 18 neighborhood parks. Since the <br />previous update, four neighborhood parks have been <br />completed, including Awbrey and Arrowhead in the <br />Santa Clara area, and Frank Kinney and Milton in <br />south Eugene. In addition, three parks have completed plans and are scheduled for construction <br />in 2005 and 2006, including Marche Chase in Willakenzie, Candlelight in Bethel, and Walnut Grove in River <br />Road. Planning is under way for Brewer Park in Willakenzie and Friendly Park in south Eugene. Only one <br />park, Creekside Park in Willakenzie, remains undeveloped, and planning is expected to begin on that site in <br />summer or fa112005. <br />Arrowhead Park <br />Phase.• Construction <br />Construction of this neighborhood park in the Santa Clara area, just south of Irvington Drive, began in late <br />summer 2004. Work was discontinued over the winter and has recently resumed, due to the dry spring <br />weather. Park improvements will include an irrigated play field for informal, non-programmed use, a <br />children's playground, new pathways, many new trees, and park amenities such as benches, tables, and trash <br />receptacles. To supplement the project, the Kiwanis Club of Eugene assisted with the installation of park <br />furniture. A park dedication celebration is scheduled for August 24. More information about Arrowhead can <br />be found online at www.ci.eugene.or.us/parks/Arrowhead. <br />Awbrey Park <br />Phase: Project complete <br />Construction of the improvements at Awbrey Park was completed in November <br />2004. Improvements include a new playground and a smaller scale parking lot <br />remodeled to ensure accessibility, upgrades to picnic tables, including the addition <br />of accessible tables. Some areas of irrigation and new plantings have been added, <br />and a bio-filtration swale was incorporated to handle runoff the parking area. Site <br />lighting was added to increase security in and around the parking lot and <br />playground. Other aspects of the master plan are planned for future funding <br />sources, and include a footbridge and path, renovating and irrigating the open turf <br />area, adding a small picnic shelter, and doing invasive plant removal and planting <br />native in the riparian area.
