Implementation has been very
successful. Projects have been generally on budget, considerable funds have been leveraged through
partnerships, grants, donations, and volunteer efforts, and substantial completion is anticipated in 2006.
CITYWIDE AND REGIONAL PROJECTS
The bond measure identified eight projects to develop or improve community-wide recreation facilities. The.
City's partnership with School District 4J expanded
Community/Regional Park Facilities that total to nine projects. Six projects are complete,
~ ~ ~ including the youth sports parks, Amazon Pool, the
^ Goal Alton Baker Park boat launch, and Bethel
~ ®Completed Community Park. The three remaining projects
"' o In progress (Amazon Park, Skinner Butte Park and Delta Ponds)
0 2 4 6 g 0 Planning have begun implementation.
Number of Projects
Alton Baker Park
Phase: Implementation
Whilamut Natural Area of Alton Baker Park --Bond measure funding leveraged a $71,000 matching grant
from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Implementation of this grant over the last year has
included delineation of the boundaries of the old Day Island Landfill, and performing riparian restoration work
along a stretch of the Willamette River. The landfill delineation has allowed above-ground habitat restoration
activities to proceed with a better knowledge of the subsurface site conditions. Several volunteer planting
parties organized by Stream Team have resulted in the planting of more than 1,000 native trees and shrubs
along a half mile stretch of previously barren riverbank. The grant will continue to fund the propagation of
native grasses .for planting on the landfill cover, as well as maintenance of the new native plantings.
