SECTION XIII FUELING AND DEFUELING OF AIRCRAFT <br />1, GENERAL <br />;,, <br />(a) No person shall smoke on any apron or near an aircraft being <br />fueled or defueled9 or within fifty feet of any plane, at any <br />time. <br />(b) Persons engaged in the fueling and defueling of aircraft shall. <br />exercise: care to prevent .overflow of fuel. <br />(c) No person shall use any material during fueling or defueling <br />of aircraft which is likely to cause a spark or be a source <br />of ignition. <br />-(d) Adequate fire extinguishers shall be within ready reach of all <br />...persons engaged in fueling or defueling operations. <br />(e) .All fueling and defueling of aircraft shall be conducted at <br />least fifty feet from any hanger or other building. ;~ <br />(f) Comparable precautions as established in this regulation will <br />apply to defueling as well as fueling, <br />2. SERVICE EQUIPMENT <br />(a) Storage-and servicing equipment must comply with state laws and <br />regulations. <br />~`" (b) The truck, when servicing aircraft, must be positioned so that <br />it can be readily driven away without backing up, to an open <br />area in an emergency and will not be positioned on the main <br />.exit side of the aircraft in such a` manner as to interfere <br />with the discharge of persons from the aircraft iri case of <br />emergency. <br />(c) Gas trucks will proceed slowly with caution, on the apron. <br />(d) At all times during fueling operations, in addition to the <br />serviceman on the wing of the aircraft, there will be an <br />".attendant who is fully trained and competent to operate the <br />emergency pump controls in case of emergency, stationed near <br />-the servicing vehicle:, <br />(e) During refueling the aircraft, and the .fueling, dispensing <br />~~ apparatus shall be electrically bonded and one or both shall <br />be grounded to a point or-points of-zero electrical potential. <br />(f) Filler nozzles must be of a dead~nan self-closing type and <br />blocking open the self-closer is strictly°forbidden Nozzle <br />will be equipped with approved bonding connectors which shall <br />be clipped or otherwise, or positively engaged with bonding <br />attachment on the aircraft.
