is found to be still in place. <br />3.H PROTECTION OF TREES <br />Special care must be exercised and protective measures utilized when ~~: ork within the public way <br />impacts the critical root zone of street trees and those trees designated for protection in a natural <br />resource protection area as described in section 2.D.2 of this documen:_ No root over 2 inches in <br />diameter of such trees shall be cut without the approval of the Urban For°ster. Utility lines shall be <br />installed by tunneling under roots within the critical root zone whenever practicable. Alternatively, <br />hand-digging around roots or using other non-destructive methods of excavation, such as an air - <br />spade, are acceptable methods of preventing damage. <br />Protective fencing shall be required around designated trees to protect :he area of the critical root <br />zone outside of the immediate excavation area but within the work zone. See Standard Specifica- <br />tions 221 A.1 - 221 A.3. Temporary placement or storage of construction materials, equipment, tools, <br />or soil shall not occur within the critical root zone of street trees. The _oil within the critical root <br />zone of street trees shall be protected from rutting or compaction damage from construction <br />equipment, such as tires or outriggers. All operations shall also comply with ANSI Z-133.1, Amer_can National Standard for <br />Tree Care Operations -Pruning, Trimming, Repairing, Maintaining. and Removing Trees, and <br />Cutting Brush -Safety Requirements. A permit shall be required when -pruning limbs 2" or greater <br />in diameter. <br />3.I EROSION PREVENTION, SITE RESTORATION AND CLEANUP <br />Erosion prevention measures shall be incorporated into all work perfo-med under aright-of--way <br />permit in compliance with 6.630(2) of the Eugene Code and associated a~ministrative rule R-6.645. <br />The intent of these rules is to ensure that construction related activities pr°vent or minimize erosion, <br />sedimentation, and other stormwater related problems. No person shall engage in any construction <br />related activity in a manner that can potentially impact water qualit<~.
