d) Mulching - Scrape off any sod, grass, or other vegetation from a 6 foot diameter circle around the <br /> tree. In azeas where six feet is not available between the sidewalk and the curb, the entire area <br /> shall be squared off for a distance of six linear feet centered on the tree. Apply 3 inches of mulch <br /> over the entire area, except for within two inches of the trunk. <br /> e) Irrigation conflicts- Occasionally, the situation will be encountered where existing irrigation runs <br /> down the center of the planting strip, conflicting with the installation of trees under this agreement. <br /> When this occurs, the contractor shall reroute the irrigation azound the planting hole with four 90 <br /> degree bends or approved alternative. Contractor shall be compensated for such rerouting at the <br /> price bid for this work in section 3.1.2 <br /> 2.1.7 Watering Sasin <br /> In order to direct water to the roots, create a continuous 3 inch high raised berm at a radius of 3 feet around <br /> the tree. If the space available is less than 3 feet, make the radius of the berm as big as possible. <br /> 2.1.8 Staking <br /> Trees are to be planted and established with a straight trunk, that is plumb. This can be <br /> accomplished through proper planting and staking. <br /> a) Use two (2" x 2" x 6' fir stakes or approved equivalent) driven firmly into the ground <br /> outside of the planting hole to prevent root damage. <br /> b) Attach the tree to the stakes at a height no higher than 2/3 of the total height of the tree <br /> using tree ties that are at least 3/4" wide to prevent damage to the tree trunk.. 'i'he tree ties, <br /> must be securely attached to the stakes by a staple to prevent slipping to the ground. <br /> c) Attach the ties to the tree so that the tree is able to have some movement but is still held <br /> firmly in place. <br /> 3. Payment <br /> Payment will be based on the price quoted for the service times the number of units of service provided. <br /> Payment will be subject to acceptance of work by the City. <br /> <br /> 3.1 Price Quote Schedule <br /> Tree planting services will be paid on a per tree basis.
