Management Practices Self-Assessment
i
2.92 Training Goals
The training goals of the agency are established and periodically reviewed.
Training goals should be consistent with the agency's mission, vision, and value statements.
These goals provide the basis for developing all training programs, choosing teaching methods,
and evaluating performance.
Assigned to: Tammy Donahue Initial Review Date: 11/18/2002
Completed by: Tammy Donahue Compliance Date:
Amount Complete: Full Compliance
Documentation/Directives:
APPM Policy Manual

_i Training, Education and Development: Chapter 2.1.14
City of Eugene Safety Program: Chapter 13.3.3
~ Safety Committees: Chapter 13.3.4
I
OSHA Required Safety Programs: Chapter 13.3.12
i
I Values and Operating Principles
Public Works -Work Plan
Mission and Vision
i
Human Resources Work Plan
Mission & Goals Section
Values Statement
Coordinated Training Program -List of Required Classes
i, Human Resources Board Memorandum
Supervisor's Competencies
Communications -Development Activities
Leadership Academy
Lead Worker Training
Agency Compliance:
The City's Coordinated Training Program is managed centrally in Human Resources Division. The
Performance and Development Manager works with the Human Resources Advisory Board to review the
curriculum and establish mandatory training requirements for all employees and supervisors/managers
aligned to the current priorities of the organization. This board is made up of representatives from all
departments. Public Works currently has three .manager representatives on the board.
Other methods for establishing training goals are through meetings directly with the departments.
In 2001, the Performance and Development Manager met with the Public Works management team to
assist in prioritizing supervisor and manager training priorities based on supervisor competencies. This
department feedback created the priority list for training to be offered or developed in the following year.
©2004 American Public Works Association Version 5.0
33
