The service can also help supervisors to resolve and prevent employee job performance problems. <br /> No one is expected to leave at home the effects of a broken arm, a sprained ankle, or the flu when they arrive at <br /> work. It is equally unrealistic to expect an individual to leave. the effects of personal problems at home. Persistent <br /> personal problems can be reflected by behavior changes such as .increased absenteeism, physical illness on the job, <br /> decline in general physical condition, coming tolreturning to work in abnormal condition, missed deadlines, and <br /> j fatigue. When these behaviors are continuing and repeated, the EAP may be able to help the supervisor and the <br /> ~ employee improve the situation. <br /> How to Refer an Employee <br /> 1. Observe the job performance problem(s). Focus on specific behaviors. <br /> 2. Document specific problem behaviors. To clarify what to document, call the Employee <br /> Assistance group, 344-6929. <br /> 3. Confront specific problem behaviors when talking with your employee. Meet privately with <br /> the employee. Identify the specific behaviors you have documented and express the desire to <br /> resolve the problem before it iequires disciplinary action. <br /> 4. Refer by encouraging your employee to use the Employee Assistance Program.
