Memberships may be paid for by the City. Participation in professional organizations <br /> is encouraged. <br /> Educational Aid may pay up to the full cost of tuition for courses approved by your department, <br /> excluding book costs. The amount of payment depends on the availability of funds, the value of the <br /> course to the organization and the probability the course will improve your job performance. Talk to <br /> your supervisor for more information. <br /> Career Development Program is designed to help all regular City employees develop a plan used <br /> for professional career growth and advancement. Contact HRRS for additional program <br /> information. <br /> Promotions-(APPM Section 3-610) <br /> If you apply and are selected for a position at a higher pay range than your current position you <br /> will be placed at the nearest step on the new salary range that provides at least cone-step <br /> increase (at least on the first step, but not above the top step of your new,range). If you are due <br /> for a merit increase at the time of your promotion or shortly thereafter, your supervisor may <br /> grant an additional step increase. You will start a new probationary period when you are <br /> promoted.. <br /> Transfers- (APPM Section 3-620). <br /> A transfer occurs when you move from one position to another at the same salary range. <br /> Transfer opportunities are periodically posted by Human Resources. Departments may initiate <br /> or allow a transfer within the department if it is determined that such transfer will benefit <br /> operations. In order to be transferred, you must meet the minimum qualifications for the new <br /> position. <br /> Layoffs-(APPM Section 3-1020) <br /> The City reserves the right to layoff employees; transition assistance will be provided to all <br /> employees who have been identified for layoff. If you are laid-off as anon-represented <br /> employees, HRRS will work with your supervisor and to actively seek an alternative job within <br /> the City or outside the City. <br /> Page 14 <br /> <br />
