In an effort to respond to the EPA findings and protect non-smokers from
the effects of secondhand smoke in the workplace, the Executive Managers have
adopted a new smoking policy, detailed on the back of this memo. This policy has also
been reviewed by the AFSCME Joint Labor Management Relations Committee
(JLMRC).
The new policy prohibits smoking in all indoor work areas, including all City-owned or
-leased vehicles, unless expressly permitted by collective bargaining agreement. The
policy is effective April 1, 1993.
Please review this policy and share it with any of your coworkers who do not have
e-mail.
HRRS will setup smoking cessation programs for all employees who would like to quit
smoking. (Sessions will not be scheduled during your regular work hours.) HRRS will
pay one half of the fee upon entry into the program. Employees will be reimbursed for
other half of the program after one year of non-smoking. Call Steve Auferoth at X5610
ore-mail him if you are interested in this program.
(OVER)
