City of Eugene
Human Resource and Risk Services Policies
3-810.1 Coding of Sick Leave (Revised 10/21/99)
Employees who regularly work more than twenty (20) hours per week,
should code sick leave used at the same rate as they regularly work. For
example, employees who regularly work thirty (30) hours per week should
code six (6) sick leave hours (not four) each day they are out.
1 Flex-time employees who are out ill charge the same number of sick
hours as they would have worked that day.
3-810.2 Accrual Limits (Revised 08/21/02)
i
I
Non-represented employees hired after January 1, 1980 can accrue a
maximum of 960 hours.

.I!~
Non-represented employees who were employed before January 1, 1980,
were able to choose between continuing with the former policy of
unlimited accrual or changing to a new sick leave policy of limited accrual.
Employees who chose to accept the new policy retained all sick leave
accumulated before that date in a reserve account, and started an
additional new sick-leave accrual (960 hours maximum) under the
limited-accrual policy. Effective July 1, 1990, the reserve account was
merged with the regular sick leave account enabling employees to use the
hours previously held in reserve. These employees do not accrue sick
leave unless the account balance falls below 960 hours. These
employees may request to borrow a maximum of 96 sick leave hours after
they have used all their accrued sick leave.
For purposes of sick leave fold-in at retirement, employees on a 56 hour
shift will have their sick leave hours converted to a 40 hour basis in
accordance with PERS guidelines.
3-810.3 Illness in the Family (Revised 10/21/99)
Either concurrent with or in addition to qualified leave time under state and
federal law, non-represented employees may use up to three (3) working
days of sick leave because of an illness of a family member when the
employee's presence is required for the care of the family member.
Exceptions to the three (3) day limit may be granted when warranted.
Family member for purposes of this provision is defined as the employee's
Human Resource and Risk Services Revised: 08/21/02
