(This <br /> is also allowed under APPM 3-870 on an exception basis.) <br /> The employee called up for active duty must notify his/her supervisor in <br /> writing of the above options prior to leaving for duty. If no choice is made <br /> the leave accruals will remain intact while the employee is on leave. <br /> 3-840.22 Health Insurance While on Military Leave <br /> i <br /> Employees on military leave without pay may continue their health <br /> insurance coverage through the City on a self-pay basis for up to 18 <br /> months under the federal COBRA continuation law. Contact HRRS for <br /> details. <br /> 3-840.23 Reinstatement Rights (Revised os/oz/99) <br /> Upon returning from military leave an employee is entitled to return to the <br /> position held prior to the leave, with no loss of seniority. Employees will <br /> not accrue any leave while on a leave of absence. .However, upon <br /> returning from military leave, employees will be credited their military <br /> leave time for the purposes of determining their vacation accrual rate or <br /> any other affected benefit. The sick leave balance the employee had at <br /> the time s/he began their military leave will be reinstated. <br /> The employee must apply for reinstatement within 90 calendar days after <br /> discharge from military duty. In the event that the employee is no longer <br /> L able to perform the duties of the position, the City must provide other <br /> employment for which the employee is qualified with seniority, status and <br /> pay as near to the employee's previous position as possible. If the <br /> employee was serving a probationary period at the time of taking military <br /> leave, the employee must service the remainder of the probationary <br /> period. <br /> The employee may contribute to PERS the amount that the City would <br /> have contributed during the military leave based on .the .salary the <br /> employee was earning at the time of the leave. <br /> Human Resource and Risk Services <br /> Revised: 08/09/02 <br /> <br />
