Your
supervisor must give prior approval for time off and cost reimbursement.
In-House Training meets a variety of organizational needs and goals. These courses are offered at
no cost to you through the City's Coordinated Training Program. Some courses are required for
new employees. See your supervisor or contact HRRS for details. Or visit our Intranet site
(http://ceonline/HRRS/PD/CTP/CoordTrnQlntro.htm)
Out-Of-Organization Training provides specialized training required by many City occupations and
may be acquired by attending professional association meetings, workshops, conferences, etc.
Professional Memberships may be paid for by the City. Participation in professional organizations
is encouraged.
Educational Aid may pay up to the full cost of tuition for courses approved by your department,
excluding book costs. The amount of payment depends on the availability of funds, the value of the
course to the organization and the probability the course will improve yourjob performance. Talk to
your supervisor for more information.
Career Development Program is designed to help all regular City employees develop a plan used
for professional career growth and advancement. Contact HRRS for additional program
information.
Promotions-(APPM Section 3-610)
If you apply and are selected for a position at a higher pay range than your current position you
will be placed at the nearest step on the new salary range that provides at least aone-step
increase (at least on the first step, but not above the top step of your new range). If you are due
for a merit increase at the time of your promotion or shortly thereafter, your supervisor may
grant an additional step increase. You will start a new probationary period when you are
promoted..
Transfers- (APPM Section 3-620).
A transfer occurs when you move from one position to another at the same salary range.
Transfer opportunities are periodically posted by Human Resources. Departments may initiate
or allow a transfer within the department if it is determined that such transfer will benefit
operations. In order to be transferred, you must meet the minimum qualifications for the new
position.
Layoffs-(APPM Section 3-1020)
The City reserves the right to layoff employees; transition assistance will be provided to all
employees who have been identified for layoff. If you are laid-off as anon-represented
employees, HRRS will work with your supervisor and to actively seek an alternative job within
the City or outside the City.
Page 14
