are also expected to use proper safety methods, practices and equipment necessary for your job.
Accidents, faulty equipment, unsafe practices and/or unsafe conditions in your work area should be
promptly reported to your supervisor. Accident prevention is an important part of every employee's
job.
Appearance and Conduct - (APPM Section 3-115.1, 3-214)
Customer relations are an essential part of yourjob. The City values professional, helpful, efficient
service; you are expected to do the best possible job for the citizens of Eugene. Neat appearance,
appropriate conduct and a helpful attitude are very important in gaining favorable public opinion.
Since many employees are recognized as employees of the City, you should take care that off-the-
job conduct does not impair your effectiveness on the job.
You may not request or accept special favors, considerations, gifts, discounts for private purchases
or gratuities offered which is resulting from or related to your employment with the City. The
appearance of impropriety can be as damaging as actual impropriety and should also be avoided.
Workplace Violence Policy-(APPM Section 3-232)
The City of Eugene is committed to maintaining a safe work environment free of all forms of
violence for all City employees, agents of the City, and our customers. Any act of violence or
intimidation, including verbal or physical threats, is strictly prohibited at all times.
Workplace violence is defined as any act of physical, verbal or written aggression by an individual in
or related to the workplace. This includes, but is not limited to, verbal threats or intimidation and
physical intimidation, assault or battery by an employee, former employee or any visitor to a City
workplace. Workplace violence may also include destruction or abuse of property.
It is the responsibility of all employees and agents of the City to create and maintain a work
environment free of workplace violence.
Employees and other agents of the City who experience any form of violence in the workplace,
including physical or verbal threats, are expected to report the incident, as outlined in Administrative
Policy & Procedures Manual (APPM) 3-232. In addition, any City employee having knowledge of a
violent act committed in the workplace by any person must also report it.
Weapons Policy-(APPM Section 3-231)
The City of Eugene is committed to providing a safe working environment for all City of Eugene
employees. In order to meet this goal, the City of Eugene prohibits employee possession of any
dangerous weapon, while on duty or at any other time while in a City owned or controlled building,
job site or vehicle. As defined in ORS 161.015, a dangerous weapon means any weapon, device,
instrument, material or substance which under circumstances in which it is used, attempted to be
used or threatened to be used, is readily capable of causing death or serious physical injury, unless
such possession is authorized by the City in the performance of the employee's job duties. This
policy takes precedence over an employee's permit to carry a concealed weapon.
This policy applies to all City of Eugene employees except those having specific statutory and
agency authority to possess the above weapons in the performance of their job duties. Pepper
mace is not prohibited under the policy, however, employees other than Police Services personnel
are not authorized to use pepper mace in the performance of their job duties.
Page 5-February 2004
