City of Eugene
Human Resource and Risk Services Policies
per week.
Exempt employees often work more than 40 hours per week to do what is necessary to
complete their job duties. In acknowledgment of this working condition, and after
reviewing the City's internal practices, and market practices of other public and private

li employers, the City has established policies and benefits to partially compensate exempt
employees for this extra work requirement and to correct potential inequities in certain
working situations. The benefits that are provided are additional vacation time and under
limited circumstances, flexible scheduling, additional compensatory time off or overtime
pay at 1.5:1 or up to l:l depending on the working conditions. This policy does not
attempt to provide full compensation for all hours worked in excess of the. 40 hours work
week.
To administer this policy effectively, exempt employees are required to report actual
hours worked. This is the only way the City can periodically evaluate how this policy is
being administered. It is also essential that as a public, tax supported institution we have
high reliability in our financial recordkeeping.
Due to the various services provided by the City of Eugene, a variety of working
conditions exist. Because of these differences it is important to establish benefits that
compensate individuals who are required to work extra hours as well as to allow for
discretion in addressing unique working conditions.
Human Resource and Risk Services Revised: 09/16/02
