i <br /> I <br /> MAINTENANCE WORKER 1 City of Eugene <br /> #5005, Range 14-0 .Revised 3/02 <br /> ' EEO Cat: 8, FLSA: Non-Exempt Page 1 <br /> i <br /> I <br /> DEFINITION <br /> Performs varied manual work and operates light and medium-sized construction equipment to <br /> maintain City street, sewer, wastewater treatment plant facilities, drainage systems and related <br /> structures. <br /> DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br /> Maintenance Worker 1 is distinguished from Maintenance Worker Trainee by the emphasis on <br /> construction and facilities or ground maintenance assignments which require some independent <br /> ~ judgement to prioritize tasks and use appropriate tools, materials and supplies. Equipment <br /> operation requires skill in the use of light construction equipment. It is distinguished from <br /> <br /> i Maintenance Worker 2 by the emphasis on manual construction maintenance duties and limited <br /> <br /> 'j operation of medium-sized construction equipment. <br /> <br /> i <br /> SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> Receives supervision from a Public Works Department supervisor; receives on-going lead _ <br /> direction from other Maintenance Worker classifications. <br /> Exercises lead direction over Maintenance Worker Trainees and temporary help at a work site <br /> on a recurring basis; lead work is typically over one or two employees. <br /> EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br /> Performs varied public works maintenance activities such as hauling and spreading gravel to a <br /> uniform depth; shoveling and raking asphalt, clearing catch basins and ditches, and assists with <br /> installing sewer pipe to proper grade. <br /> Cleans wastewater grit channels, hoses down wastewater clarifiers, and operates portable <br /> pumps or equipment required in a wastewater treatment plant. <br /> Operates vehicles, light construction equipment, and hand and power tools, such as 5-yard <br /> dump trucks with trailer, jackhammers, compactors, grinders and other equipment assigned to <br /> Maintenance Worker Trainee classification. <br /> Performs grounds keeping duties such as mowing, fertilizing, and watering turf and barking <br /> landscape areas. <br /> Performs minor carpentry, painting, concrete work or other constructions tasks. <br /> Maintains daily work records as required. <br /> <br />
