It is also extremely helpful to attend <br /> conferences and training sessions to stay current with developing technologies <br /> ~ and methods. <br /> Atypical process would be researching the "Common Mapping" files to locate <br /> existing monumentation which would provide horizontal and vertical co-ordinates <br /> then going into the field and setting up surveying equipment to observe these <br /> monuments and establish new points from them. From these points, a traverse is <br /> established. A traverse is a system of physical points on the ground of which the <br /> relative distances and angles are measured and recorded. The traverse is either <br /> I, completed and then reduced in the office fo determine the accuracy or at once <br /> used to begin collection of boundary, topographic or planimetric information. <br /> This collection of data is the result of measurements of distances and angles to <br /> existing structures above ground as observed by the Engineering Technician and <br /> <br /> ~ below ground as marked on the ground by outside agencies. <br /> This data is then dowloaded into the computer system in the office and used to <br /> create a plan indicating the location of existing structures on the project. Once <br /> the project plans have been created and the project awarded, the Engineering <br /> Technician returns to the field to place wooden stakes in the ground fo indicate to <br /> the contractor the location of the proposed structures that they are to build.
