Project Review
Agency Compliance: The Compensation and Classification section in the Human Resources& Risk
Services Department oversees and maintains the City's Classification Plans.
When new positions are established in Public Works, PW supervisors develop
detailed position descriptions (position questionnaire) which are reviewed by HRRS
as to the proper classification.. The scope and language of existing classifications
are also reviewed and, if necessary, modified, whenever a position is vacant, work
groups are reorganized, or equipment and/or licensing requirements have
changed. PW management staff works closely with HRRS and provides input
whenever changes to classification language need to be made or new classification
description developed. While there are classifications specific to PW operations,
the City's policy is to maintain. broad generic classifications and minimize the
• :number of unique or stand-alone classifications.
AFSCME represented and non-represented (Exempt) classifications cross
departments therefore, classification plans are maintained and managed centrally
in the Human Resource and Risk Services Department (HRRS). Classification
plans are reviewed and modified centrally as directed by the Executive Managers,
Human Resource Management Team, and AFSCME Union Contract provisions.
Public Works managers and supervisors work closely with central HRRS to ensure
that classification plans are reflecting actual business needs.
Actions to Comply:
Evaluator Suggestions:
Evaluator Requirements:
Evaluator Note:
Project Manager's Signature: CG Date: Ce .z3 ~
Agency Director's Signature: Date: ~ ' 27""`~i~

APWA Self Assessment - 4th Edition # 2.1 Page 2 of 2
