City of Eugene <br /> Human Resource and Risk Services Policies <br /> i <br /> i <br /> 1. Leave the scene, if if can be done safely. No attempt should be made to <br /> control a violent person. <br /> 2. Call the police, if the situations warrants. The appropriate law enforcement <br /> j agency should be contacted if there is a concern that acts may escalate or that <br /> someone's safety is threatened. <br /> 3. Notify a supervisor as soon as it can be done safely. <br /> 4. The employee and/or the supervisor should contact the division/department <br /> manager or HRRS Director as soon as possible. <br /> 5. The division/department manager or HRRS Director may notify the police if <br /> this has not already been done. <br /> <br /> ~ B. If an individual poses no immediate threat, but is making verbal threats or <br /> otherwise intimidating employees or other persons in the area, then the <br /> employees should: <br /> 1. Keep away from the individual, if possible. <br /> 2. Notify a supervisor or the HRRS Director as soon as possible. <br /> C. Any City employee having knowledge of a violent act involving any other City <br /> employee must report it immediately to a supervisor, division manager, <br /> department manager or the HRRS Director. <br /> Investigations: <br /> City employees: Upon receiving a formal report of an act of workplace violence <br /> by a City employee, Human Resource and Risk Services will direct a confidential <br /> and thorough investigation to be conducted in a timely manner. <br /> All reports will be handled discretely. Confidentiality will be maintained as far as <br /> practicable. <br /> A written record of the investigation will be made. The investigative materials will <br /> be maintained in HRRS in a confidential file. <br /> If, after investigation, it is determined that corrective action and/or discipline is <br /> appropriate, the immediate supervisor and department manager will be notified <br /> and action will be taken in accordance with City policies and practices. <br /> Human Resource and Risk Services <br /> Revised 09/16/02 <br /> _ <br /> <br />
