City of Eugene <br /> Human Resource and Risk Services Policies <br /> i <br /> i <br /> Workplace violence is defined as any act of physical, verbal or written <br /> aggression by an individual in or related to the work place. This includes, but is <br /> <br /> ` not limited to, verbal threats or intimidation and physical intimidation, assault or <br /> battery by an employee, former employee or any visitor to a City workplace. <br /> Workplace violence may also include destruction or abuse of property. <br /> Responsibilities: <br /> It is the responsibility of all employees and agents of the City to create and <br /> maintain a work environment free of workplace violence. <br /> i <br /> Employees and other agents of the City who experience any form of violence in <br /> the workplace, including physical or verbal threats, are expected to report the <br /> incident, as outlined below. In addition, any City employee having knowledge of <br /> a violent act committed in the work lace b an other Cit em to ee must also <br /> p Y Y Y P Y <br /> report it, as outlined below. <br /> (NOTE: Emergency services personnel are often exposed to situations that <br /> involve violence. These guidelines are not meant to be applied to emergency- <br /> . personnel in the course of their interactions during an emergency or enforcement <br /> response. Police Department and Fire/EMS Department policies and standard <br /> operating procedures apply in those situations.) <br /> Supervisors and managers have additional responsibility to: <br /> 1. Stop verbal or physical threats and/or workplace violence. <br /> 2. Listen to complaints relating to violent acts, investigate the situation and take <br /> corrective action where appropriate. <br /> 3. Share inf rm ti <br /> o a on onl with staff that have a need to know enerall a direct <br /> Y ,g Y <br /> supervisor and/or the Human Resource and .Risk Services (HRRS) Director. <br /> Response and Reporting Procedures: <br /> A. Should a violent incident develop, the first priority should be the safety of <br /> employees and other persons in the area.
