occurring. This is based upon his experience with repaving part of the street near the shelter in August
several years ago and finding a significant amount of water in the area, despite summer weather. My
suggestion for this project is that we identify significant additional funding prior to rebidding the
project, and then rebid it in late winter or early spring for mid summer construction. The funding we
identify should include enough money to cover any sort of contingency items we come across during
construction. Atypical construction contingency would be about 15 %-20 % of the estimated bid price.
One potential funding source we could consider would be neighborhood matching grant.
j I'm sorry to be the bearer of such discouraging news. I will be happy to work to get this project bid
again at a later date, however, I would like to encourage everyone involved to take the funding
discrepancies seriously and at face value. If we learned anything through this process, I think it is that
if we want a quality project, we must find additional funding. Please feel free to call me if you have
any questions or further comments you would like to share. Thanks very much.
Sincerely,
Emily Proudfoot
Landscape Architect, Project Manager
682-6019

i

I

i

i

'j
(l .
