Vision, Values, and Strategic Goals 2008-2012 <br />OUR STRATEGIC GOALS 2OOg-2~12 <br />Goal 1: Balance the need to provide new parks and facilities with the need to protect and <br />preserve public investment in existing parks and facilities. <br />Action 1.1: Determine the unit costs for maintenance and operations activities and use the <br />information to: <br />o Evaluate impacts of proposed parks and facilities, including the cost of bringing <br />newly acquired sites to a maintainable condition; <br />o Establish maintenance service levels based upon available resources; and <br />o Develop operations management plans for specific parks and open spaces. <br />Products: <br />1. Analysis of the costs of maintaining the park and open space system, showing <br />costs by activity type, park or natural area, park type, maintenance modes, etc. <br />2. Documented maintenance standards, including at least two levels of maintenance <br />for each component. <br />3. Resource management analysis by type (neighborhood, community, natural area, <br />etc.) and plans for individual, representative parks and open spaces. <br />4. Operations management plans. <br />Measures: <br />1. By December 2008, all maintenance and operations activities will be included in <br />the decision tool that is used to analyze projected costs for new parks. <br />2. By 2010, maintenance service levels will be established for all activities. <br />3. By 2012, develop operations management plans for 25% of parks and open space <br />acreage. <br />Action 1.2: Develop system-wide plans for major renovations of critical system components for <br />which maintenance has been deferred, including: <br />o Children's play areas <br />o Skateparks <br />o Sports fields and Courts <br />o Vegetation <br />o Natural Areas <br />o Trails <br />o Restrooms <br />o Irrigation systems <br />o General park development features such as walkways, signs, lights, benches, picnic <br />tables, exercise stations, shelters, medians, stormwafer facilities and parking areas. <br />Products: <br />1. Inventory of critical system components with age, condition, and lifecycle. <br />2. Established priorities for each type of component and for each site. <br />3.
