To celebrate the 2000 holiday, <br /> Americans ar nd the country are volunteering to help others. As Harris Wofford, chief executive officer <br /> of the Corpor ion for National Service stated, "We encourage all Americans to spend this holiday, one <br /> that celebrates both America's history and future, by serving their fellow Americans and making this a <br /> better country." <br /> North est Youth Corps (NYC) was created in 1982 specifically to offer youth the education, <br /> work experien~Ce and social skills they need to become productive members of society. Support from <br /> work projects,) businesses, foundations and individuals have helped NYC become Oregon's largest <br /> conservation orps program, helping 4,000 youth during the past 17 years.
