On Monday, July 10, from 10:30
a.m. to 2 p.m.~ employees from Nike's Eugene retail store and the Nike USA Retail group at Nike's
world headquarters in Beaverton will work side by side with NYC YouthWorks participants and staff,
Americorps members, and City of Eugene employees to kick off the renovation of Trainsong Park.
Trains©ng Park, located on Edison Street off Bethel Drive, serves the 1,750 residents in Eugene's
Bethel Triangl neighborhood and is a popular location for the City's Summer Kids in the Park (SKIP)
program. Among the needs at the neighborhood park are general cleanup, landscape improvements, and
site furnishings and field renovations.
In addition to pledging volunteers to help with the Service Day, Nike recently granted $15,000
to NYC to improve Trainsong Park. The grant, which will supplement improvement funds from
Eugene's parks' and open space bond measure, will be used to hire NYC YouthWorks crews to perform
park maintenance and improve park facilities -including softball and soccer fields and a basketball
court for Betel children and families who play in Trainsong Park.
I
