rf
~ _
August 1, 2000
CONTACT: Bud DeSantis, Project Manager, 682-5230
From Public Information Section, 682-5523
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SIXTH AVENUE UNDER CONSTRUCTION FROM OAK TO OLIVE STREETS
Motorists should consider using alternate routes through the Eugene downtown area for
the next several weeks while work is being done on Sixth and Seventh avenues between Oak and
Olive streets.
Beginning early Thursday, August 3, traffic will be restricted to one lane on Sixth
Avenue between Oak and Olive for five to seven days and the pedestrian crossings at Sixth and
Olive will be closed as work is done on the underground wastewater system. Crews from Delta
Sand & Gravel, working under contract with the Eugene Public Works Department, will dig up
two locations on Sixth Avenue -one near Olive Street and the other midway between
Willamette and Oak streets -and install new manholes to provide better access for ongoing
maintenance of the wastewater system.
Immediately following the wastewater system work, Delta will begin rebuilding the
intersections on Sixth and Seventh avenues at Oak, Willamette and Olive streets to replace the
existing badly deteriorated crosswalks and paving. The crosswalks will be replaced with tinted
concrete scored similar to other crossings in the downtown area. That work is scheduled to
begin Sunday, August 13, and be substantially completed by the end of August. _
(More)
Public Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
