The program moves to Shasta Middle <br /> i <br /> School next eek, culminating with community rides near that school on June 7 and 8. <br /> Stude is begin with classroom instruction, practice in the school parking lots, progress <br /> to nearby int rsections, and then graduate to community rides with experienced cyclists. The <br /> eight-hour pr gram teaches students how to select a helmet that fits and why it's important to <br /> follow the rul s of the road. It also gives young riders bicycle-handling skills and provides them <br /> with practice pplying these skills to real-life situations on the road. <br /> "We a e hoping to teach children to get around safely on their own, instead of relying on <br /> their parents o drive them.
