This signage
was installed s part of a joint effort between the City of Eugene and Eugene Water and Electric
Board to further promote water conservation.
For th~ last nine years, water conservation has been an integral part of the City park
system. In 192, Public Works Maintenance installed Maxicom, a weather station-based system,
which regulates water use in the parks. Maxicom is connected to a central computer with links to
i
the weather nation.
The Bather station calculates the amount of evapotransporation (ET) lost in the previous
24 hours. Us ng the weather data, the computer feeds information to a remote controller at each
park site, wh Ich adjusts the amount daily. As a result, only the amount of moisture that was lost
gets replaced In addition, several of the Maxicom park sites have built-in flow meters that
automaticall shut the system down if it senses excess water from a leak or broken component in
the irrigation~''system. Currently 47 sites are connected to this system.
