News Relea a CLEANING AND REPAIRING SEWER LINES
July 10, 200
Page 2
I'~
This ~eason's sewer repair work includes two projects. The first project, anticipated to
begin in earl August, includes the area bounded by Hilyard Street, Capital Drive, East 20th
Avenue and ast 27th Avenue. Insituform Technologies, Inc., of Salem, bid $1.27 million to
repair more ~han four miles of underground wastewater main lines and related service
connections pnd manholes.
A se and project is scheduled to go to bid in mid-July and will cover four areas: West
Amazon Dri a to Ferry Street from East 38th Avenue to Fox Hollow Road; Willamette Street to
Ferry Street ~rom East 30th to East 31st avenues; Olive to Pearl streets from Fifth to Sixth
avenues (all y areas only); and a small easement area east of Storey Boulevard and north of
Courtney PI ce. The total project includes repairs to about two miles of wastewater main lines
and related Service connections and manholes. Work on that project is anticipated to begin in
early September.
The astewater repair projects use a technique in which flexible liners are inserted into
existing and rground main line pipes to avoid digging up the street as much as possible.
However, trajditional "dig and replace" methods are used to reconnect house connections and
portions of tl~e service lines with public rights-of-way, so there will be some construction and
traffic impac s in the work zones. The work also requires brief interruptions of wastewater
service, and (residents are notified before work is done on their wastewater service lines.
Sewer user fees fund both the cleaning and repair work.
~i
II
I',

III
