The Public Works Maintenance concrete crew will
remove portions of sidewalk at both the Orchard location, as well as at Charlenton at 17~'
Street. After the tree planting at Franklin and Orchard, ETF volunteers and the
NeighborWoods Coordinator will plant four red oaks at 17"' and Charnelton and six oaks at
255 Mill Street to finish up their tree planting season.
Arbor Day is America's national tree holiday, a day set aside to plant ceremonial trees,
educate children about the importance of trees, and honor the important role tre®s play in the
daily lives of people in communities across the country. This project was selected to
commemorate Arbor Day this year because the purpose of Trees for Concrete so closely
matches the mission of Arbor Day. Founded in 1872, Arbor Doy is now celebrated in all 50
states. Oregonians celebrate Arbor Week the first full week in April. For more information about
Arbor Day and other NeighborWoods projects, call b$2-4831.
