And why
does it rc ain so? Rccausc dcvclopcrs (othcrwisc known as a special intcrest), arc on the
other side ressuring city government to keep their bottom line high.
Well, the ity of Eugene's bottom line suffers when the fees it sets fur SDCs are too low to
recover th full cost of development - which is supposed to be city policy.
Neverthel ss, city staff has decided to present a proposal to the taxpaying public that says
it's okay t sacnfice millions in lost revenues for the sake of keeping developers'
wastewate SDC low for new homes.
At~a time hen Eugene needs this revenue most, I have to add my voice to the many that
say these ministrativc dccisi~ns arc astoundingly inc~nsistcnt with city policy and the
lax-cut cli ale -with measures directed at drying up taxes, city administrators should not
be proposi g fee reductions that will mean a deficit in revenues collected to cover
infrastruct re costs.
I would li an accounting from city engineer Les Lyle and city manager Vicky Elmer for
allowing s ch gross disregard for the public interest to reach the concrete step of
"proposed 'fees.
Sincerely,
Tracy Mill r
i
I
