The Oregon Utility <br /> Cb rdinating Cou cil (OUCC) is a voluntary group of utility, construction, governmental, <br /> and other interest d parties dedicated to the prevention of infrastructure damage and to <br /> the rderly planni g and installation of utility infrastructure. Members of the OUCC have <br /> <br /> typi ally been sel cted to represent their respective companies or agencies to the focal <br /> ,,.~ili y coordinatin councils which make up OUCC. The Lane Utility Coordinating Council <br /> (LU C) is the loc I council of which the City of Eugene is a member. The local councils <br /> e!e t delegates to OUCG to insure adequate representation of all areas and utility <br /> anti ities through ut the state. Since the coordinating councils are voluntary <br /> o~g nizations, th r actions are considered recommendations and not binding on any <br /> rrte ber organiza ion. <br /> <br /> Th LUCC meets once a month for a general meeting of the membership. The <br /> rr~e bership atte ding is encouraged to participate by bringing to discussion any item of <br /> ir~d vidual or gen ral interest in the area of utilities and underground facilities. This <br /> pr ides a local f rum for addressing issues and concerns related to utility construction, <br /> co rdination, and damage prevention. <br /> Th utility coordi ating councils, member agencies, and affected construction and <br /> ex avation contr ctors have worked to establish astate-wide utility notification center <br /> vuh se purpose i to provide a convenient and consistent mechanism by which excavators <br /> qa notify operat rs of underground facilities of planned excavation work, placing locate <br /> re uests" prior to excavation. Through this notification system, utility operators are able to <br /> m rk the iocatio of their underground facilities in the area of a proposed excavation, <br /> inf rming and co rdinatiog with the excavator to prevent damage and avoid service <br /> di ruptions.
