3.6.1 Portland Cement Concrete Streets Alleys and Driveways
In addition to general requirements 1 through 20 given above, work within Portland Cement
Concrete (P.C.C.) streets and alleys shall conform to the following requirements:
1. Minimum width of pavement cuts in P.C.C. streets and alleys shall be three (3) feet.
Unless otherwise approved, replacement of the full panels affected shall be required
on sidewalks and driveways.
2. P.C.C. in utility trench patches shall be placed to a depth matching the existing
pavement or seven (7) inches, whichever is greater. Where the existing pavement
is P.C.C. over Cement Treated Base (C.T.B.) or Asphalt Treated Base (A.T.B.),
replacement depth shall be the combined depth of the P.C.C. and C.T.B. or A.T.B.
3. Where the replacement P.C.C. on the outside edge of an alley abuts A.C. a
minimum of 24 inches of A.C. shall be removed to allow sufficient room for the
placement of the alley concrete forms and proper compaction of asphalt restoration.
Where the alley outside edge abutting material is P.C.C., a full length expansion
joint shall be placed.
4. Steel reinforcement which is required to be used in all P.C.C. street, alley and
driveway utility trench patches shall be No. 4 bar twenty-four (24) inches on center
in both the longitudinal and traverse directions. A minimum of two parallel bars in
each direction shall be used. Except at existing expansion joints, the new patch
shall be tied into the existing pavement by fully inserting the reinforced steel into
drilled half inch diameter by three (3) inch deep holes in the adjoining existing
pavement. Splices in the reinforced steel required to be made shall have an overlap
of at least twelve (12) inches.
5. Utility trenches patched with P.C.C. shall be kept free of traffic or other detrimental
trespass through use of suitable barriers and other traffic control devices for a
minimum period of seven (7) days. An alternative using 9.0 sacks of Portland
cement per cubic yard of concrete allows the traffic to be returned after a minimum
period of (3) days.
6. Pavement cuts encountering P.C.C. overlaid by asphalt concrete may be replaced
by full depth asphalt concrete.
7. Internal vibration shall be used to consolidate P.C.C. which is being placed in
depths greater than seven (7) inches.
3.B.2 Asphalt Cement Concrete Streets
In addition to general requirements 1 through 20 given in section 3.B above, work within

Asphalt Cement Concrete (A.C.) streets and alleys shall conform to the following
requirements:
Utility & R/W Permit Policy 20 02/09/98
