Mayor Kitty Piercy will kick off the rededication at 2:30 p.m. at <br /> the He Bricks Park F.M. Wilkins Shelter. The afternoon will include music, tastings of locol <br /> cheese ,cake, and a champagne toast to the next 100 years. The local nonprofit <br /> organiz tion, Friends of Hendricks Park is spearheading the celebration and businesses such <br /> as Mar et of Choice, Capella Market, and cheese makers throughout the valley have <br /> provid d donations. ' <br /> What egan 100 years ago with a very generous gift, has grown to become omuch-loved <br /> comet nity asset for all. In 1906, fihe Hendricks Family donated 41' acres, and the City <br /> purcha ed additional acreage, to form 78 vcres of Hendricks Park. The Hendricks' noted that <br /> "such park should be procured at the present time when the same is avoiloble in its natural <br /> state, t be reserved for future generations of the city of Eugene as o Public Park, open to all <br /> of the 'nhabitants thereof and of the surrounding country." <br /> Today the park provides important wildlife habitat and recreation opportunities for all Eugene <br /> reside is and visitors.
