News Release
July 3, 2007
Page 2
Also as part of the East 18th project, Agate Street will be repaved from 13th to 22nd
avenues. That work includes reconstructing the intersection of 19th Avenue and Agate Street, which
means that intersection will be closed to through traffic for at least one week, tentatively beginning
July 24. The work on East 18th and Agate Streets is scheduled to be substantially completed by
mid-September.
The two projects on 18th Avenue are among 10 asphalt overlays being done around the city
this summer as part of Eugene's pavement preservation program. The total cost of this summer's
pavement repair projects is estimated at more than $5 million, funded primarily by Eugene's local
motor vehicle fuel tax, a portion of the fees paid by new development in Eugene, and cone-time
infusion of $1.5 million from the City's general fund.
For current information about road work in Eugene, including updates about the intersection

closures at West 18th and Bailey Hill and at East 19th and Agate Street, call the metro roadwork

hotline at 984-8484, or visit the City of Eugene's web site at www.eugene-or.gov/pw.
Eugene Public Works • www.eugene-or.gov/pw
858 Pearl Street, Eugene, Oregon 97501 • 541-682-5523 • fax 541-682-6826 • e-mail pwadmin@ci.eugene.or.us
