Preparation for Leadership. Academy FY07-
Managersupport for their participants

Actions for Managers of academy participants to help them and their participants
get the most from the program. Managers can:
0 Be aware of the curriculum and the various topics
0 Discuss with the participant content from specific sessions. Discuss with,
them what they learned? What ideas/coricepts stood out for them? What
might they want to apply in their daily work?
• There is great benefit to participants needing to articulate the
answers to the above types of questions to keep them engaged
and thinking about this experience.
0 Give well balanced and honest 360 feedback.
0 Make time to do a one-on-one discussion about the results of the 360,
especially on points of alignment/misalignment between the manager
score and the self score.
0 Actively review the participants development plan, question and support
their development process
0 Help create time for your participant to practice conversation and. thinking
time, looking for long term results. We have talked about how we "pay .
managers to think" yet many managers are challenged to find the time to
do that.. It is what allows for strategic vs. staying in immediate thinking.
0 Join participants for one of the lunch time sessions during the academy
year.
0 Help the participant connect with other alumni from the program to allow
for processing learning. This can be valuable with sharing between
divisions and departments.
