Public Works
The Public Works backbone consists of 6 GE repeaters located at the Crestview site. In addition there are
two backup repeaters for PW 1 and PW2 located at Skinners Butte.
There are many divisions within the Public Works arena so to keep the reader interested I'll just list total
numbers. We currently maintain approximately 170 mobiles and 240 portables. Most of these are of
Kenwood brand. In addition we have about 4 "control stations" located at the Roosevelt facility,
Wastewater, and the Sheldon EOC. The ones located at Roosevelt and Wastewater has about 15 remote
controls attached to them to enable office personnel access to the radio system. Many mobiles have
DTMF paging systems that will honk horns and turn on lights to tell the operators that they are needed on
the radio.
The city maintains an "emergency operations center" (EOC) that is housed at the Station 6 fire station
near the Sheldon high school. In this center are 2 police, 2 fire, and 2 public works base stations. These
allow a central location for various levels of emergencies.
Miscellaneous Public Works systems include the telemetry system that is used by wastewater to monitor

their pump stations. About 40 stations are on the system and they communicate with a base station
located at wastewater. Also the city maintains an in-house paging system that has about 340 users. The
main transmitter is located at the Crestview site.
