We plan on
construction in 2002. We propose the project be designed by city staff and the construction contract managed in
accordance with normal City proccedures. We are open to discussion of an IGA should the County excercise it's
right of fast refusal.
The City of Eugene is committed to rehabilitation of amulti-modal train station in Eugene. The station is intended
to provide transportation options for all modes of travel including: pedestrians, bicyclists, automobiles, buses and
taxis. This important connection will be included in the NHS when completed.
By extending Oak Street through the station site, the multi-modal station will better serve those traveling in Eugene
and the high speed rail corridor. Increased ease of use will help increase the number of visitors to the area. The City
is currently in the process of purchasing the right of way for. this extension.
$2,000,000 in Federal TEA-21 funds and $1,173,000 in TE funds are devoted to the station acgisition and upgrade
project. Amtrak will contribute up to $1,000,000 more. These funds are not sufficient to complete the station
project and extend the road. Use of CaPP funds will allow us to finish the area improvements needed at the site.
The Oak streeet extension will be a very visible part of the Multi-modal station project and will add to the ecomonic
vitality of the area by supporting and encouraging train travel and circulation for the 5th Street Market district.
NOTE: If
1.
