d. In addition, all City of Eugene buildings and facilities shall be operated and maintained in a sus-
- tainable manner using the LEEDT"'1 Green Building Rating System for Existing Buildings (LEED-
EB) as a guide. Certification of existing buildings under LEED-EB will be evaluated for techni-
cal acid economic feasibility and pursued on a case-by-case basis as funding is available.
2. It is Citv policy that sustainability elements will be considered part of the standard costs of building
maintaining and preserving_public assets. One of the goals adopted by the City Council is that on-
• going financial resources will be adequate to maintain and deliver munici 1 services, including fund-
ing for the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of L' i ty uildings and associated
facilities. While incorporating principles of sustainability may increase the initial cost of public
building construction, maintenance and preservation, the expectaiion is that reductions in the long-
term costs of building operation and maintenance will meet or ezccc:d the irii~Iial incremental costs.
We concerned that the current language may not be true.... The members of the team would
represent all parts of the organization that implement the sustainable building policy. The team would be
charged with developing a report on new construction and renovation projects that identifies the number
7
