The open house will run from <br /> 7 to 9 p.m. at E ison Elementary School, 1328 East 22°d Avenue. <br /> The pla was drafted by a local consulting firm, David Reed and Associates, with direction <br /> from the Hendri ks Park Department Advisory Committee and Public Works staff. The advisory <br /> :panel was form din February 1998 and charged with providing citizen input into the development <br /> of a forested ar a management plan for Hendricks Park. The document being presented November <br /> 17 is the produc of many months of research and discussion, including a public meeting held last <br /> July at the park. Key recommendations of the draft plan include: <br /> • As the highest priority, create a more windfirm environment within the "saddle" area of the <br /> park (in the vici ity of the road and picnic shelter). <br /> • Mana e the douglas fir area of the park so it progresses toward a native old-growth forest. <br /> • Resto e the oak woodlands to give a sense of what the Willamette Valley may have looked <br /> like 150 years o. <br /> A num er of policies and strategies have been developed to provide more detailed direction <br /> on implementi g the key recommendations.
