~ ~ i i ~ <br /> May 29, 1998 <br /> i CONTACT: Bud DeSantis, Project Manager, 682-5230 <br /> From Public Information Section, 682-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> ' SECTION OF BARGER DRIVE TO CLOSE AS CONSTRUCTION GEARS UP <br /> A series of projects that will bring more than $7 million worth of public improvements to the <br /> west end of Barger Drive will also mean short-term traffic delays and detours. City of Eugene projects <br /> ~Icurrently under way in the Barger Drive area between Terry Street and Greenhill Road include extending <br /> I~he wastewater and stormwater system, improving Barger Drive, and constructing two new streets. <br /> 4Additionally, Bethel School District 52 is building a new school south of Barger, a local organization <br /> plans to construct a new baseball complex south of the school, and several residential subdivisions are <br /> under development in the area. <br /> The City's work on Barger Drive between Terry Street and Greenhill Road includes widening <br /> the street and installing sidewalk, street lights, and a pedestrian signal. Anew road, Legacy Street, is <br /> being built to serve Bethel's new K-8 Meadow View School, a new park south of Barger, and <br /> surrounding areas. Another new street, Babe Ruth Drive, is expected to be built later this summer off <br /> ~,egacy Street to provide additional access into the City parkland and a proposed Babe Ruth baseball <br /> G~omplex. Wastewater and stormwater lines are being extended from south of the new school site to <br /> ~onnect with existing systems. Funding for the improvements comes from assessments to property <br /> owners, City systems development charge funds, and a contribution from Lane County's road fund. <br /> The project schedule calls for all work to be substantially completed by the start of school in <br /> early September. <br /> <br /> r (more) <br /> Public Works • Administration.
