~
1
i

I
News Releas - 1998 Eugene Leaf Program
October 21, 198
Page 3
i
i
Tips for Lea f Disposal
The C~ty no longer provides a leaf drop-off site at Alton Baker Park. Leaf piles at various
city parks are I i com ostin stock files and are not laces where eo le can dum leaves.
~,h' P g p p p p P
City caws can't collect scattered leaves or leaf piles that are stacked under or close to
parked cars. Debris such as branches, rocks, metal, and lawn clippings will not be collected, and
leaf piles containing such debris also will also not be picked up because the City cannot deliver
them to peoplel, who want leaves for mulch. Residents should pile leaves in the street the
weekend before the scheduled pickup to ensure leaves are picked up during the scheduled
collection time. After the last scheduled pickup in each area, property owners are responsible
for removing any leaves left in front of their homes.
Here ar¢ some additional tips for placing Ieaves safely in the street:
• Pile 1 ~ ves on the street surface near the gutter, keeping gutters and catch basins clear.
l
• Windr~w the leaves so they do not obstruct the flow of water along the curb.
•On streets without curbs and gutters, pile leaves near the street, away from ditches.
•Stack laves so they don't block bike and traffic lanes or create hazardous situations for
bicyclists and otorists.
•If there~is no alternative but to place leaves in bike lanes, keep at least half the lane's
idth open for bicycles.
•Keep sidewalks free of leaves, which are slippery when wet and hazardous for pedestrians.
