Local residents are reminded that they are responsible
for removing leaves and other debris in the streets in front of their homes or businesses.
Richard Zucker, manager of the City's leaf recycling program, estimated that Public
Works crews picked up about 14,250 cubic yards of leaves during the 10-week collection
program. That's about average in terms of the volume of leaves put out in the streets by Eugene
residents. But Zucker said he was disappointed by the amounts of yard debris mixed with this
year's leaves.
"Lots of people in town request clean loads of leaves, and this is a service we really like
to provide," Zucker said. "Unfortunately, because of the yard debris I've got a stack of requests
that have to go unfilled."
The City has developed a new, twice-a-year curbside yard debris pickup program with
local solid waste haulers. For more information on the next pickup date, call your waste hauler
or the City of Eugene yard waste hotline at 682-2744.
Public Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl • Eugene, OR 97401-2727 • Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX (541) 682-6826
