The overpass, which was constructed to increase safety for pedestrian and <br /> ,cyclists, also 1 nks two Council wards (Wards 1 and 7), two active neighborhood groups (the <br /> i <br /> Jefferson Are Neighbors and Friendly Area Neighbors), two schools (Jefferson Middle School <br /> I <br /> and Patterson lementary School) and several recreation facilities (the Fern Ridge Path, <br /> Westmorelan park and community center, and the Kidsports and City ball fields on Polk Street). <br /> Panne ships also played an important role in the funding and construction of the 12-foot- <br /> wide, lighted oncrete bridge. Funding for the $750,000 overpass project included $490,000 in <br /> federal transp rtation enhancement funds administered by the Oregon Department of <br /> Transportatio ,with the balance coming from the City's road fund. The bridge was designed <br /> and built by o local firms: OBEC Consulting Engineers of Eugene and Wildish Construction <br /> Co.
