I <br /> i _ i i _ i <br /> I <br /> July 10, 1997 <br /> i <br /> I' CONTACT: T rry Schiele, Project Manager, 682-5584 <br /> Fram Public I ormation Section, 682-5523 <br /> FOR IMMED ATE RELEASE <br /> STORMW TER SYSTEM UPGRADE UNDER WAY IN CONGER STREET AREA <br /> Constru tion is under way to upgrade the stormwater collection system in a west Eugene <br /> business distric . <br /> The wo k involves installing approximately 4,600 feet of pipe used to collect and transport <br /> stormwater on onger and Wilson streets from Fifth Avenue to 10th Place and on McKinley Street <br /> from Broadway to West 11th Avenue. Currently, that area is served only by "bubbler" systems that <br /> channel storm ter into the streets during storms. The new system will carry stormwater through <br /> underground pi es, reducing potential flood damage to public streets and private property during <br /> periods of heav rainfall. <br /> Allsup onstruction of Eugene submitted the low bid to make the improvements. Estimated <br /> cost of the prof ct is approximately $480,000, to be paid from funds collected through City of <br /> Eugene stormw ter user fees. <br /> Access ill be maintained to area businesses, but motorists may encounter delays and <br /> temporary park ng restrictions in construction zones.
