I
Public Works
Administration
City of Eugene
858 Pearl Street
March 12, 19 7 Eugene, OR 97401
(503) 687-5262
CONTACT: ob Hammitt, Maintenance Director, 682-4800
From Public I formation Section, 682-5523
FOR IMME IATE RELEASE
TWO OAT LANDINGS REMAIN LOCKED DUE TO MEASURE 47 CUTS
Two C' -maintained Willamette River boat landings in the Santa Clara area will remain
closed as a res It of Measure 47 budget reductions.
The gat s at Whiteley Landing at the end of Chapman Lane and Hileman Landing at the
end of Hilem Lane will not be opened this spring and will remain closed until further notice.
The closures ar due to Measure 47 reductions in general fund parks operations, Eugene Public
Works Mainte ce Director Bob Hammitt said.
The two boat landings have been maintained by the City of Eugene since the late 1980s.
In the past, the andings were gated during the winter and open to the public during daylight
(hours in the sp ng, summer, and fall. However, that arrangement required a contract with a
,Security comp y and the help of neighbors to lock the gates at night and unlock them in the
lmorning to disc urage drinking parties and other illegal uses, Hammitt said. Other costs
associated with peeing the boat landings include garbage .pickup, maintenance of the access

$~oads and sanita ion facilities, and repairs due to vandalism.
~
