THURSDAY, MAY 1, NEAR THE <br /> iOASIS STOR ON WILLAKENZIE ROAD.J <br /> NEW SIGNAL SHOWS BENEFITS OF PARTNERSHIP FOR SAFETY <br /> Student at Sheldon High School and other pedestrians have a new, safer way to cross <br /> Willakenzie Ro d, thanks to the joint effort involving the City of Eugene and local volunteers. <br /> A volun eer crew from Wildish Construction in April assisted in the installation of a <br /> pedestrian-acti ated traffic signal on Willakenzie Road just east of the high school. The City <br /> ,,''provided the si nal equipment as well as workers from the Public Works Transportation Division <br /> i to do the actual electrical installation. Wildish employees dug the trench for the signal conduit, <br /> repaired the str et and sidewalk after the signal equipment was installed, and constructed four <br /> new curb ramp to make the crossing accessible for people with disabilities. <br /> In all, ildish donated an estimated $20,000 worth of labor and supplies to the project. <br /> The City provi ed a similar value in equipment and staff time normally used for transportation <br /> maintenance p ojects. <br /> (more) <br /> <br /> vu~lir.
