The Public Works Department will drain the channel below the <br /> !mill pond begi ing Thursday. The mill pond will not be affected by the drawdown, and the <br /> i <br /> lower mill race will be refilled as soon as the cleanup is completed Sunday afternoon. Public <br /> Works also wil provide equipment for the cleanup, and haul off debris gathered by volunteers. <br /> 1 <br /> The cle up begins at 11 a.m. and is expected to take several hours to complete. <br /> ~ Volunteers sh d wear boots and gloves and bring rakes and shovels if they have them. The <br /> i <br /> mill race clean p is a valuable community service because the mill race flows directly into the <br /> ~ Willamette Ri er, and any debris thrown into the millrace can wind up polluting the river, said <br /> Public Works aintenance Director Bob Hammitt. Volunteers are also welcome to enhance <br /> water quality other locations around the city.
