I/ I~~~ <br /> Public Works <br /> April 10, 1996 Administration <br /> City of Eugene <br /> 858 Pearl Street <br /> CONTACT: Ruth Koenig, Eugene Stream Team, 465-2814 Eugene, OR 97401 <br /> From Public Information Section, 465-2739 (503) 687-5262 <br /> BIRD WALK/WORK PARTY CELEBRATES EARTH DAY <br /> Celebrate Earth Day early by enjoying a guided bird walk in the Delta Ponds wetland <br /> area and stick around for a tree planting and cleanup work party on Saturday, Apri120, beginning <br /> at 8 a.m. Steve Gordon, a local naturalist with extensive bird and wetland experience, will lead <br /> the walk from 8 to 10 a.m. Afterward, volunteers will plant native tree species such as ash and <br /> red osier dogwood. General cleanup of the Delta Ponds will include litter and debris removal <br /> from this valuable urban natural resource. <br /> Volunteers should meet at River Park Living Center, 425 Alexander Loop, at the corner <br /> of Goodpasture Island Road. Wear sturdy shoes or boots, dress appropriately for the weather and <br /> bring work gloves. <br /> The activities are coordinated by the Eugene Stream Team in conjunction with the <br /> Friends of the Delta Ponds, Red Lobster Restaurant, Willamette Oaks Retirement Center and the <br /> River Park Living Center. The Eugene Stream Team brings volunteers together to enhance local <br /> water quality, maintain flood control and protect natural resources of streams, ponds and <br /> wetlands. <br /> The program is funded through stormwater user fees and is part of the City's Stormwater <br /> Management Program.
