The <br /> goal of the challenge is to get as many people as possible to bicycle to work on Thursday, June 6. <br /> The event is sponsored by the cities of Eugene and Springfield, the Lane Council of <br /> Governments, Lane Regional Air Pollution Authority, Lane Transit District, and KRVM-FM to <br /> promote bicycle commuting, which helps reduce traffic congestion, pollution, and parking <br /> problems. Last year, more than 1,000 employees at 60 area businesses, non-profit organizations, <br /> and public agencies participated in the event. <br /> Participating organizations in the 1996 Business Bicycle Challenge are eligible for prizes, <br /> including a chance to win the "perpetual plaque." Prizes are awarded based on the size and type <br /> of business and the level of participation. Other incentives include free maps, posters, brochures, <br /> videos, and speakers available to ensure a fun and safe commute on June 6. <br /> The deadline to register for this year's Business Bicycle Challenge is May 15.
