News Release ACE PROJECT BEGINS <br /> July 26, 1996 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Within the project area, Amazon Creek crosses four streets: West 11th Avenue, Bertelsen <br /> Road, Belt Line Road, and Danebo Street. No road closures are anticipated during construction; <br /> however, motorists may wish to call the City's traffic relief hotline at 984-8484 to see if any <br /> project traffic advisories have been recorded. <br /> The stream design varies within the project area. One of the most noticeable changes will <br /> be along the stretch east of the creek crossing at West 11th Avenue. In this area, the stream bed <br /> will be widened enough to allow two channels. In one area the top of the bank will broad enough <br /> to accommodate the bicycle path, a picnic area, and a scenic overlook. <br /> Funding for the project comes from approximately $1.7 million in federal funds made <br /> available to Eugene through the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA). <br /> The remainder of the funding for the $3.3 million project will come from local sources, including <br /> <br /> I'~ stormwater user fees. <br /> When completed, ACE will enhance Amazon Creek for bicyclists, bird watchers, picnickers, <br /> Additionall the redesi ned creek <br /> lon the creek. <br /> if that lives in and a Y~ g <br /> well as the wildl e <br /> and hikers as g <br /> will do a better job of filtering out pollutants that can enter the stream from nearby streets and <br /> properties. <br /> <br />
