The project
includes extending the Fern Ridge Path more than two miles to the west and widening the stream
bed and replanting native wetland plants to improve habitat and water quality.
Delta Sand & Gravel submitted the low bid for the project, which includes excavating
120,000 cubic yards of existing embankment material and constructing 13,500 lineal feet of 12-
foot-wide, lighted bicycle path. The landscaping work includes seeding and mulching
approximately 13 acres with native grasses, planting 1,200 willow trees, and implanting bundles
of shrub willow along most of the new stream bank. Most of the work is tentatively scheduled to
be completed by early December.
In addition to the work being done by the contractor, there will be opportunities for
volunteers to make special plantings, install interpretive signage, and provide other amenities.
People interested in special projects are encouraged to call the City's volunteer coordinator at
465-2814.
